China to break all records by launching All-Electric river cruise vessel

As per the reports, late 2021 will be able to witness one of the world’s largest all-electric river cruise vessels, set to be delivered by “WUKI SAISIYI ELECTRIC TECHNOLOGY” which is a subordinate of China Ship Building Corporation. The battery electric river cruise vessel, YANGTZE RIVER THREE GORGES 1, is capable of storing 7.5 megawatt hours of energy and is scheduled to launch in July 2021 and will be available in fully functionable condition in November 2021.

China’s Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has duly sponsored the project and big names can be associated with the project such as Changjiang Ship Design Institute which has contributed by giving the design and leading battery manufacturer CATL provided the 10,000 battery cells that make up the vessel’s power supply. The cells have been divided into four separate compartments for safety purposes and an additional backup battery system is given for any emergency situations. It is believed that the vessel will not emit any particulate matter and will displace 17 tons of NOx per year.

Yichang Transportation is said to operate the vessel which currently operates day cruises at Yangtze River.

Norwegian fertilizer manufacturer company YARA has the current record holder for the most powerful all electric vessel, YARA BIRKELAND. It had a storage capacity of 7.0 megawatt hours of energy.

The present time largest battery operated passenger vessel in operation is ELLEN, an electric ferry. It holds the capacity of 4.3 megawatt hours and is operated on a set route between Soby and Fynshav ports in Denmark.
